Moonlight Raider by Amanda Scott - Review @ForeverRomance

*Sheri Here: I'm completely in love with this cover. Beautiful dress, that I would love to own.*

Border lord Walter Scott of Rankilburn, grief-stricken after burying his father, goes to the forest seeking solace. Instead he finds a half-naked young lady fleeing pursuit. Wat offers his protection, but honor demands that he return the golden-eyed beauty to her rightful husband-even though the last thing he wants is to see her in another man's arms.

Molly Cockburn has fled her home, family, and the brutal scoundrel she was forced to wed. Her pursuers are closing in when the powerful new Lord of Rankilburn bravely intervenes, then promises to help prove her marriage unlawful. Though fiercely loyal to her family, Molly fears they might harm the man she is coming to love, and now she must decide whether to remain faithful to her blood . . . or to her heart.

Molly Cockburn has lived a life of fear amongst her family, so when her family is determined to marry her off to a brute just like her father, she runs. She runs right into Walter Scott who despite what they rules say he needs to do, chooses to shelter her.

Molly and Walter falling in love is sweet, and Molly wins over Walter’s whole clan, but he’s a King’s men so he has to obey the rules of the land and send her back to her father.

I died a bit inside during certain scenes because Molly and Walter were definitely tested in their relationship and love. Ms. Scott brings them together in a way that shows that love can bloom anywhere.

I will be reading more by Ms. Scott in the future, she’s won me over and rekindled my love of historical romance.

Rocky Mountain Miracle by Christine Feehan - Review

No Christmas will ever be the same after Cole and Maia meet on a snowy western ranch… Find out why in #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan’s romantic holiday e-novella!

When Cole Steele, a womanizer rumored to have killed his father, meets Maia Armstrong, a veterinarian rumored to practice magic, the sizzling romance could melt all the snow on his Wyoming ranch. And when an injured horse brings them together, Cole can’t help but believe that Maia casts spells on animals—and men. What else could explain the burning passion he feels for her and the thawing of his heart just in time for Christmas?

Cole Steele has a reputation and a tragic past. He’s in charge of his younger brother, who also had to live the kind of past full of pain that Cole had to live, and now Cole is just trying to make life normal for Jasper.

He meets Maia Armstrong, a woman that attracts him and stands up for him before they even meet, yet she calls to him to settle down and have a real family even though that’s the last thing he ever imagines. Throw in some crazy suspense and this is a satisfying novella that tugs on the heartstrings.

I definitely enjoyed this contemporary novel from Christine Feehan, it still has a touch of paranormal with Maia’s connection to animals but it was easily worked into the story without being too out of place.

Romancing the Billionaire by Jessica Clare - Review @BerkleyRomance

The New Billionaire Boys Club novel by the New York Times bestselling author.

The Billionaire Boys Club is a secret society. Six men of astonishing wealth. But there’s one thing money can’t buy. When it comes to love, success doesn’t come so easily…

Jonathan Lyons. Playboy, billionaire, and adventurer, he lives life on the edge. When he hears that his mentor, Dr. Phineas DeWitt, had a secret journal that leads to a legendary artifact, Jonathan takes action. It stirs his blood, but it comes with a heady challenge: DeWitt’s daughter Violet. She has what Jonathan needs. And she’s not giving it up it to the man who broke her heart.

Violet is Jonathan’s weakness—he’s still in love despite their volatile breakup a decade ago. But Violet’s memories have a sharper edge. She’s never forgiven him for abandoning her. Or so she thought. When Jonathan’s attentions turn seductive, she’s in danger of falling for him all over again. And she can’t help but wonder…does he really want her, or just what she's hiding?

Two young college students fall in love, but fate and a meddling father ends things tragically, years later they aren’t those young kids anymore, but the love still exists even if Violet denies it vehemently.

Jonathan doesn’t have all the details of why Violet is so adamant against their love being rekindled, but he is a grown man, a billionaire, and he doesn’t let a simple no stop him for going for what he wants, and he definitely wants her.

I enjoyed the way Violet’s father seemed to be trying to right old wrongs posthumously, and I understood Violet’s reaction to her dad’s meddling from the grave. I also understood Jonathon’s reactions to various situations, and I couldn’t blame him for expressing his feelings the only way he knows how.

I really enjoy all of Ms. Clare’s Billionare Club books and this was an interesting and good addition because the main characters were second chance lovers, which was a great new trope to explore.

I highly recommend this book, with solid writing and two characters who you never doubt their love, just their ability to learn to live and love again with years of pain and misunderstandings and lack of communication to get through.

Snow on the Bayou by Sandra Hill - Review @ForeverRomance

Joining the Navy was the second best thing that ever happened to Justin "Cage" LeBlanc, the rebel son of a no-account convict. The first was Emelie Gaudet, the love of his life . . . until he was forced to leave town and swore there would be snow on the bayou before he ever returned. Now, only his mortally ill grandma can bring the injured Navy SEAL back to Terrebone Parrish, where he must face his past-and Emelie, who's even more beautiful than she was all those years ago.

Bourbon Street blues singer Emelie is once bitten, twice shy. When she learns that Justin is back in town, she wants nothing to do with the once wild Cajun teenager who fled with the law on his tail-and broke her heart. But she can't deny the red-hot attraction between them . . . or his efforts to prove he's finally changed his hell-raising ways. Can she trust that this time the bad boy of the bayou will be the best man for her?

Tante LuLu is back, and I’m even more in love then I was before. I’ve always loved the Bayou books by Sandra Hill and this newest one is a throwback to the magic that started that love for me.

Justin “Cage” LeBlanc, was dealt a bad hand, but he took charge of his life and returns to the bayou a Navy SEAL, unfortunately he’s not returning for any kind of happy reunion, instead the grandmother who raised him is dying. He also runs into the woman he loved at the tender age of seventeen, and with so much baggage and bad road between them it doesn’t seem like they’ll ever get their happily ever after. But never underestimate Tante LuLu and St. Jude, after all they specialize in hopeless causes.

The best part, Ms. Hill throws in an intriguing terrorist plot that keeps the yummy SEALs busy and close to the bayou to celebrate Mardi Gras. I adored both Emelie and Justin as characters, they’re both hurting and they’re both stubborn, but they were definitely meant for each other.

I seriously want to buy all my friends a copy of this book, it’s that good. I really think that just one taste of Tante LuLu will hook everyone on these books.

Simply Pleasure by Kate Pearce - Review #klover @KensingtonBooks

Experience the illicit passions of Regency England in Kate Pearce’s House of Pleasure series…

Master Of Seduction

Ten years as a sex slave in a Turkish brothel have left Val Sokorvsky a master in the art of erotic seduction. But even as he offered his body, he never offered his heart. Now that he is returning home he wonders what kind of welcome he will find. Only one person understands his pain and Val is helpless to resist the passion he feels for Peter Howard, his English lover…

Master Of Submission

Peter learned to survive his years as a sex slave by coaxing and teasing his lovers to the heights of sexual ecstasy. But there is only one man he’s ever loved, one man he can never take as his own. Returning to England may save him from captivity but it may also take away Val, the one man to whom he’d willingly give his body and soul…

A fantastic Regency M/M romance, that I enjoyed every second of, even while I ached for Peter and Val, they have to come a long way for their happily ever after, and I rooted for them the whole time.

Ms. Pearce is an amazing writer, she is able to take an unlikely subject like two men being lovers in Regency England and present it in such a way that it’s very believable. I liked Peter and Val, they were so different yet at their core were exactly what each other needed.

This is a novella, but it packs the punch of a full blown novel, and I highly recommend it.

A Cowboy's Christmas Promise by Maggie McGinnis - Review @readloveswept

In a captivating novel spiced with holiday magic—perfect for fans of Rachel Gibson, Susan Mallery, and Molly O’Keefe—a rugged Montana man mends a Northeast girl’s jaded heart.

Boston veterinarian Hayley Scampini tends the city’s pampered pets but dreams of the rural life of a country vet. She’s single and determined to stay that way, convinced that love isn’t permanent enough to trust. Then a vacation to the Whisper Creek dude ranch introduces her to Daniel McKee, a sexy single dad who runs the kind of veterinary practice she aspires to—and rattles her conviction to keep men at a distance.

Managing a thriving practice, coping with the loss of his wife, and fighting a custody battle with his in-laws over his twin daughters, Daniel couldn’t be more overwhelmed. Hayley is a godsend, accompanying him in the field and winning over his girls. It doesn’t take Daniel long to realize he’s falling for this woman, hard and fast. So before Hayley returns to Boston, he extracts a promise: that she will return to Whisper Creek for Christmas. It’s the perfect time and place to show Hayley that the promise of a beautiful life together is something she can believe in.

Maggie McGinnis is fast becoming a new favorite go to author for me. This was the second book from this great author and she really is a new refreshing voice in contemporary small town romance. I really enjoy the ranch and all the colorful characters.

Hayley and her Boston practice made me giggle and roll my eyes, because I will admit I don’t understand the love of tiny dogs who are so overbred they can’t live a normal dog life. I also adored Hayley’s insistence that she’s just going to have a fling, and how much Daniel knocks her off her path without really meaning to.

Daniel is a fantastic hero because Hayley totally sneaks up on his blindside too. I loved his lively girls that added a touch of whimsy and mischief, and at several points I wanted to smack his mother in law. She had the right amount of evil grandmother even while I understood that everyone handles grief differently.

Overall this book left me with that warm and fuzzy feeling that stuck with me long after I finished. I highly recommend this to fans of sweet romances that have a healthy dose of sexy scenes.

Wolf's Fall by J.D. Tyler - Review @SignetEclipse

A top secret team of wolf shifters, the Alpha Pack are former Navy SEALS that use their Psy powers to take on the world’s greatest predators. But while each member is loyal to the pack, it can be hard to deny the call of desire

Still tormented by his recent captivity, Alpha Pack commander Nick Westfall isn’t sure he’s fit to leadespecially when he meets the one woman he can’t claim without reliving the torture he endured at the hands of a rogue vampire.

Vampire princess Calla Shaw has seen her own share of heartbreak, but she can tell that the wild attraction she and Nick feel for each other could turn into something significantif only he’d let it. But Calla isn’t about to give up on her mate without a fight.

Time is running out, not only for Nick to claim his mate, but for Calla and her coven. A vampire war is on the horizon, one the Alpha Pack can’t hope to win if their leader can’t pull himself back from the abyss.

Nick Westfall is a rare white wolf and an Alpha of all Alphas, he’s also been traumatized by a very evil vampire recently, yet fate steps in and makes his second chance at love, with none other than Calla Shaw, a vampire princess. He logically knows she isn’t the same, but fear responses are never rational.

Calla knows falling for a wolf shifter won’t be easy, especially someone as Alpha as Nick. These two have a long road, and it’s further complicated by an unknown party out for revenge. It’s a fast paced and wild ride, which I really fell in love with. It was a trip back to characters that I already adored, and I enjoyed every second of it.

I really love Nick and Calla, and they definitely have a bumpy ride with some drama that made me want to go, hey talk to each other. I wanted to smack them both as I cheered them on, and rooted for them to figure the stuff out.

I highly recommend this story, I think those who aren’t up to date with this series could read and enjoy, but fans of JD Tyler will for sure love this installment.

It's a Wonderful Fireman by Jennifer Bernard - Spotlight/Giveaway

Hard-edged fireman Dean Mulligan has never been a big fan of Christmas. Twinkly lights and sparkly tinsel can't brighten the memories of too many years spent in ramshackle foster homes. Although he's established himself as one of the top firefighters at San Gabriel Station 1, he doesn't think he's good enough for someone like gorgeous Lizzie.

Lizzie Breen is used to fighting-from her alpha male brothers, who try to smother her in the name of safety, to the life-threatening childhood illness she overcame. She knows what she and Mulligan feel for each other is a lot more than a fling, but she can't get him to see that. The only gift Lizzie wants to give him this season is her love, but he's not willing to accept it.
When Mulligan is trapped in the burning wreckage of a holiday store, a Christmas angel arrives to open his eyes. But is it too late? This Christmas, it'll take an angel, a determined woman in love, and the entire Bachelor Firemen crew to make him believe … it is indeed a wonderful life.

“You shouldn’t be flirting with the new probie. If Fred was here, he’d tell you.” Mulligan looked very sure of that fact—arrogant, even. She assessed the bump in his nose, the way his biceps bulged from the sleeves of his T-shirt, his air of absolute assurance. Another girl might be intimidated, but Lizzie had grown up with four brothers who’d become soldiers and a firefighter. She’d outgrown intimidation by the age of six.
“Why are you so suspicious of Ace? He’s part of the brotherhood, isn’t he?”
“Not yet,” Mulligan said with decisive finality, as if everything had now been settled. “You stay here, and I’ll tell him to get lost.”
“You will not!” She grabbed his arm as he brushed past her. It felt like grabbing a log, that’s how thick and strong his forearm was. “It’s none of your business.”
“It is my business. Freddie’s my business. We’re tight.”
“If you were that tight, you’d know that his only involvement with my love life is feeding me ice cream after a breakup,” she snapped. “Stay out of it, Mulligan. You have some nerve, you really do. I’ve never even met you before, and you’re trying to tell me who to sleep with.”
He stopped dead. She kept her hand on his arm because it felt so good. His tendons tightened under her touch, and she saw his jaw flex.
A quick flick of his wrist, and suddenly she was pressed against him, chest to chest, thighs to thighs. Sensation poured through her; it felt like standing next to a volcano. “I’m not telling you who to sleep with. I’m telling you who not to sleep with.”
“Oh, really?” she snapped, furious. “Who should I not sleep with?”
“Anyone but me.”

As the sun sets below the horizon, an old man sits on a wooden bench at the edge of the park. Behind him lies the lush Turtle Pond Woods, where the flora grows so thick it is difficult to trek through without carving one’s own path. In front of the man, a crowd gathers as if he has called them there to reveal a momentous secret.

The man with the long, gray beard and feet dangling above the ground is a collector of stories. Dressed in woolen green britches and a red shirt, he is ready to tell his tale.

He opens his eyes, enhancing the wrinkles on his face. The people hush, waiting for him to speak, but he remains silent, instead banging a long steel pipe on the ground. Upon the third tap, fireworks burst into the sky behind him. Gold rains on the crowd, resembling coins rather than sparks of light. It is nothing more than an illusion by the master storyteller. The man raises his hands in the air, and the people quiet once more, settling in front of him.

With his electric-blue pet tarantula in his lap, the man speaks. “I am Nicodemus, and I have a tale to tell you, a futuristic story of love and mistaken identity. You may have heard of The Star Money by the Brothers Grimm. But in my version, the little girl was not so little, and she was not born on Earth but arrived here from a planet far, far away.

“So, this evening, for your listening pleasure, I give you The Star Princess.

“Once upon a time, there was a young woman named Ro’sa Ka. Though princess of Minjet of the Mintakan solar system, she would soon leave the star system with her betrothed, a man she’d never met, destined to marry and live on Earth. As nervous as she was about the union, the prince arrived on the planet in far worse condition....”

The Laws of Seduction by Gwen Jones - Spotlight

Chapter One
Alpha Nailed
Center City District Police Headquarters
Monday, September 29
11:35 p.m.

In her fifteen years as an attorney Charlotte had never let anyone throw her off her game, and she wasn’t about to let it happen now.

So why was she shaking in her Louboutins?

“Put your briefcase and purse on the belt, keys in the tray, and step through,” the officer said, waving her into the metal detector.

She complied, cold washing through her as the gate behind her clanged shut. She glanced over her shoulder, thinking how much better she liked it when her interpretation of bar remained singular.

“Name . . . ?” asked the other cop at the desk.

“Charlotte Andreko.”

He ran down the list, checking her off, then held out his hand, waggling it. “Photo ID and attorney card.”

She grabbed her purse from the other side of the metal detector and dug into it, producing both. After the officer examined them he sat back with a smirk. “So you’re here for that Frenchie dude, huh? What’s he—some kinda big deal?”

She eyed him coolly, hefting her briefcase from the belt. “They’re all just clients to me.”

“That so.” He dropped his gaze, fingering her IDs. “How come he don’t have to sit in a cell? Why’d he get a private room?”

Why are you scoping my legs, you big douche? “It’s your jail. Why’d you give him one?”
He cocked a brow. “You’re pretty sassy, ain’t you?”

“And you’re wasting my time,” she said, swiping back her IDs. God, times like these I really hate men. “Are you going to let me through or what?”

He didn’t answer. He just leered at her with that simpering grin as he handed her a visitor’s badge, reaching back to open the next gate. “Thank you.” She clipped it on, following the other cop to one more door at the other side of a vestibule.

“It’s late,” the officer said, pressing a code into a keypad, “so we can’t give you much time.”
“I won’t need much.” After all, how long would it take to say, No fucking way.

“Then just ring the buzzer by the door when you’re ready to leave.” When he opened it and she stepped in, her breath immediately caught at the sight of the man behind it. She clutched her briefcase, so tightly she could feel the blood rushing from her fingers.

Bonsoir, Mademoiselle Andreko,” Rex Renaud said.

Even with his large body cramped behind a metal table, the Mercier Shipping COO never looked more imposing, and in spite of his circumstances, never more elegant. The last time they met it’d been in Boston, negotiating the separation terms of his company’s lone female captain, Dani Lloyd, who had recently become Marcel Mercier’s wife. But with his cashmere Kiton bespoke now replaced by Gucci black tie, he struck an odd contrast in that concrete room, yet still exuding a coiled and barely contained strength. He folded his arms across his chest as his black eyes fixed on hers,

Charlotte getting the distinct impression he more or less regarded her as cornered prey.

All at once the door behind her slammed shut and her heart beat so violently she nearly called the officer back. Instead she planted her heels and forced herself to focus, staring the Frenchman down. “All right, I’m here,” she said en français. “Not that I know why.”

J’ai oublié que tu avez parlé ma langue,” he said. “But we’ll keep to English so there’s no mistaking my meaning.” His immaculate patent-leather shoe nudged the chair opposite. “Have a seat, s’il vous plaît.” He tsked. “I mean—please,” he added, smiling brilliantly.

If there was anything she remembered about Rex Renaud—which was nearly everything because he wasn’t easy to forget—it was how lethally he wielded his physicality. How he worked those inky eyes, jet-black hair, and Greek-statue handsomeness into a kind of immobilizing presence, leaving her weak in the knees every time his gaze locked on hers. Which meant she needed to work twice as hard to keep her wits sharp enough to match his, as no way would she allow him the upper hand. Yet even though he was in jail, even with him jammed behind that metal table, and herself looming over him, it was still a battle. Because with every advantage on her side he still dominated the room, the situation, the very airspace between them, so much so that Charlotte had to curl her hand around the back of the chair to steady herself.

Too much coffee today, she reasoned. That’s all it is. Even though she knew that didn’t even figure.
He nudged the chair again, his collar opened where his bow tie had been, his only concession to the situation. “Please sit. You heard the flic. We haven’t much time.”

“We haven’t any time at all.” She steeled herself. “It’s not like we have anything to discuss.”
Non?” His gaze offered her a challenge. “Then why did you come?”

She smiled, with delicious, malicious intent. She waited a long time to wound him—and all men like him who dismissed women so easily—and as swiftly and as deeply as she could. “Maybe for the pleasure of seeing you behind bars.”

“Really,” he said, his eyes darkening as he drew closer.  “Though the idea of pleasuring you does hold a certain appeal.”

Heat streaked through her as she slammed her briefcase atop the table. “Then take a good look, because my watching you rot in here is about as close as you’ll ever be to getting me off.”

He sat back, amused. “The lady finds her bliss in the strangest places. Though if watching people in pain is your thing, I am acquainted with a few gentlemen who’d pay you a nice piece of change to put all that aggression to use.” He cast her a glance that near stripped the clothes from her body. “I believe all you’ll need is a good deal of leather and some rather kinky boots.”

Her jaw dropped. “Are you—you—”

She waved her hand in front of her.

“Me? Why non. I do like a bit of spark in my women, but I always prefer it on top.” His eyes hooded. “Metaphorically speaking, that is.”

“You bastard piece of shit,” she uttered, pressing her knuckles to the worn steel. “I had to be out of my mind to come here when it’s clear you’re guilty of everything you’re accused of.”

“And what’s that?” he said, rising. “I’d love to hear it out of your mouth.”

“Of sexual assault,” she spit out. “Of everything vile and sick and violent that men and their disgusting appetites are capable.”

“Oh, how right you are, mon amie. How truly loathsome we are. Repulsive animals.” He leaned in, so closely she could feel his breath on her cheek, his eyes malevolent and cold. “Men are indeed beasts, always stooping to the lowest common denominator. Using brutality to get what they want, pugnacious and vicious to the end. Unlike women, who’ve crawled out of the swamp and up the evolutionary ladder to become so much more ruthlessly efficient. Who needs fists when you have feminine wiles?” He leaned in even closer. “Why shed blood when you can suck out a man’s soul.”
“What do you want from me?” she said, backing away. “Why would you ask me to defend you, knowing what I think of men like you?”

“Because I believe you’ll want to,” he said, his eyes bleeding candor and reason and some indefinable quality she found, God help her, unable to resist. “After you hear what I have to say.”

About the Book

Charlotte has built her career defending pro bono clients against womanizers like Rex Renaud, and she'd much rather let him sweat it out in a jail cell than defend him in court. Yet Rex swears he's been set up, and when he offers her a shocking sum of money in exchange for her legal counsel, the financial security is too tempting to resist. The court dubs Rex a serious flight risk—how many people have their own jet?—and he's released on one condition: Charlotte's his new jailer, and he's stuck with her until his arraignment.
